Discover the process of creating our lighting fixtures

In the world of interior decoration, wooden lighting fixtures have become popular pieces, combining both functionality and aesthetics. But behind each wooden light there is an artisanal manufacturing process that gives rise to unique and authentic pieces.

At bōlum, we are proud to share with you the secrets of our creative process, where each luminaire is crafted with care and love in our workshop in Brittany.

It all starts with an idea (and a lot of failed drawings)

Because our workshop is located a few minutes from the ocean, and Victor, the designer and co-founder of bōlum is a former ocean racing skipper, our inspiration is strongly linked to the ocean and nature.

Each shape of a boat sail, a cloud, a tree allows us to imagine new models.

Also, Victor spends a large part of his time drawing and imagining new models of pendant lights, wall lights and even table lamps.

But before arriving at the final model, several dozen drawings are made, corrected and scribbled.

Modeling our models

Once inspired, Victor brings his ideas to life through modeling. Concretely, this consists of drawing the future luminaire on software and thus being able to obtain a concrete idea of what the luminaire could look like. We thus obtain a 3D image of our future lighting fixture.

During modeling, every detail is carefully worked and studied in order to obtain elegant curves with elegant finishes. We strive to create timeless designs that stand the test of time and blend seamlessly into a variety of interiors.

Wood selection

The choice of wood is crucial in the creation of our lighting fixtures. We spent several months looking for the best wood producers who shared our values of eco-design and environmental protection.

We make a point of verifying the origin of the wood and the conditions of use. Also, we favor high-quality wood species from sustainably managed forests. Each piece of wood is carefully inspected to ensure it meets our standards and will enhance the finished piece.

Manufacturing in our workshop in Brittany

Once the modeling is finalized and the wood selected, Victor lovingly designs all our models in our workshop.

First, we choose the wooden board, oak or poplar. We quality check each board to ensure they meet our quality standards.

Once selected, a laser cutter cuts the wooden board very precisely to obtain the different blades. Victor then sands each wooden board to obtain a smooth finish. Then comes the illuminating step: applying Rubio oil. This allows the oak to achieve an even warmer color.

After manufacturing, each fixture goes through a meticulous finishing process to ensure impeccable appearance and long-term durability. We believe that quality is in the details, which is why we ensure that each piece is perfectly finished before being delivered to our customers.

From Brittany to your home

Once completed, our wooden lighting fixtures are carefully packaged and shipped to our customers with the utmost care. We strive to ensure that each piece arrives in perfect condition and ready to brighten up your living space

At bōlum, every light fixture we create is more than just a functional object - it's a timeless decorative object. We pride ourselves on our commitment to quality craftsmanship and design excellence, and we hope our fixtures will bring warmth and beauty to your home for years to come.
